Community Legal Advice services in Barking and Dagenham
"Contract signed in Barking & Dagenham"
On 1 April the LSC and the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham signed the contract with Edwards Duthie solicitors in East London to run a new, borough-wide legal advice service in conjunction with Barking and Dagenham CAB.
The new service, due to open on 4 May, will have over £2.2 million invested in it by the LSC and Barking & Dagenham Council.
This will be twice the current investment in legal advice services in the borough.
How will it operate?
It will operate from two offices in the heart of Barking and Dagenham town centres and will run outreach sessions from other parts of the borough for people who find it difficult to get into town.
The service will also provide the whole range of social welfare advice; covering:
- community care
- debt
- employment
- housing
- welfare benefits issues
- family matters.
National Relationship Director, John Sirodcar said:
"In Wakefield we hope to attract a highly professional organisation that is able to provide joined up legal services that respond to the everyday needs of those living and working in Wakefield.
“I am delighted that the Barking and Dagenham contract has been awarded to a local firm and Barking and Dagenham CAB.
“Both are experienced in delivering public services and both have made a commitment to providing high-quality services through highly trained staff and volunteers.”
